Maternity Care - General information

Maternity care covers a vast area of considerations such as:
How do I keep myself fit and well during my pregnancy?

What are the latest fashions in maternity wear?

Which pregnancy skin products do I require?

These and other points are mentioned on other pages on this website.

From every piece of information you can find on the subject, consider what is best for you regarding the actual birth of your baby. If you have any concerns about any possible hereditary medical conditions, make a mention on your antenatal appointments. Always consult your doctor if you have any doubts about your own personal health during your nine months of pregnancy.

Antenatal appointments usually take place at your doctor’s surgery, the hospital where you will be having the baby, or within your home with an appointed midwife.

Most pregnant mothers choose to have their baby delivered in the baby unit at a hospital premises. It is necessary to inform the hospital of your intention early in the pregnancy – and to let them know the likely date of the baby’s arrival in the world. This arrangement can be changed during your pregnancy period. You will need to inform the maternity hospital of your change of mind – and that you now wish to have a home birth (if appropriate).
