Childrens Books

The number of childrens books on the planet is incalculable.

What better gift could you give to a child than a book token? A book token is one of the most universally acceptable of presents for persons of all generations - including toddlers, children, and teenagers.

Factual childrens books cover a vast range of subjects. There are childrens books relating to animals and wildlife, cinematography, different cultures, the universe and outer space, childrens history books and many more wide ranges of general topics – with numerous sub-topics in each of these sections. Strictly speaking, each one of these books could be classed as an educational childrens book. But educational childrens books generally refers to books relating to such subjects as mathematics, English and foreign languages – as well as host more subjects which are often a part of a child’s school curriculum – including childrens text books, classroom books and study books. Childrens bilingual books, learning to read books, and childrens geographical and archaeological books, also come into the category of educational childrens books. Most of these books will have an index – in order to discover an appropriate section at a glance.

Fictional childrens books are usually a matter of individual taste. Whereas some children will become totally absorbed in such classics of childrens literature as “Heidi” by Johanna Spyri, or the childrens classic story of “The Wind in the Willows”, penned by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, - other kids will find much more fulfilment in storybooks by great, and possibly, lesser-known authors.

Childrens adventure stories are always a firm favourite with the under twelve age group.

Nursery rhyme books, and childrens fairy stories, are a joy to behold for many toddlers and young children. Childrens pop-up books fascinate the teeny tots.

Childrens books can be personalised. If you decide to actually purchase a gift of a book for a child, (rather than buying a book token) - having the personal details of the child, printed within the leaves of the book, makes the present very special indeed. Personalised books often become a keepsake for years to come.

Apart from childrens factual books, childrens educational books, childrens fictional books, childrens nursery rhyme books and childrens fairy story books, there are scores of other books, especially for kids, on the market. These include childrens atlases, childrens picture bibles, childrens poetry books childrens picture dictionaries, and childrens encyclopaedias.

For children who do not use English as a first language, there are childrens books in many different languages, for example, Welsh and Punjabi. For Jewish children, there are childrens books in Hebrew.

There are even books explaining the techniques of writing childrens books – but these probably make more appropriate reading for adults rather than children.

There are first edition childrens books, - many of which are highly sought after by collectors. First edition books which are particularly rare, and written by famous authors, are likely to fetch thousands of pounds/dollars, especially those containing an inscription, or signature, of the author.

Childrens books can be purchased in second hand book shops, book stores, book sections in department stores, and on-line.

Books which are likely to become unneeded - once read, and absorbed, by a child or teenager, can be borrowed from libraries. Libraries play a vital role in the lives of countless children of all ages – and their reference sections, and computer data, often provide an essential piece of information which is being sought by a child.

Charity shops are also well worth visiting - for replacements of books on a regular basis. Charity shops often stack a good selection of childrens books. Books which are bought and read one week by a youngster – can then be replaced by a different assortment of books the following week. By returning previously purchased childrens books to a charity shop, the shop is able to gain further funds for their particular good cause or charity, over and over again, from precisely the same books.
