Sexual Discussions with Teenagers

If you consider that the time is right to discuss sex with your teenage offspring, remember to make a mention of sexually transmitted diseases, avoiding pregnancy, and using condoms. Try to get the message across that casual sex often causes distress "after the event". It also needs mentioning that the “safest sex” for various reasons (often including emotional reasons) is having no sex. Provide an appropriate booklet for perusal.
To prevent sudden awkwardness, as your child approaches puberty or even later, it is generally considered better to have broached the subject of sexual behaviour, both in relation to human beings and all other living creatures, at a much earlier age. This way, there is usually much clearer understanding of the subject coupled with little embarrassment.
